A total of 390 former Boko Haram members have completed a government-led de-radicalisation programme in Gombe State. The programme, part of Operation Safe Corridor, aims to reintegrate repentant insurgents into society through counselling, vocational training, and civic education.
The graduates, including six foreign nationals, received training in vocational skills such as welding, tailoring, and carpentry. Each graduate was given ₦50,000 and starter kits to aid their transition.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, praised the programme’s contribution to national security, highlighting its effectiveness in stabilizing the northeast. However, public reactions remain mixed, with some questioning the programme’s long-term impact.
The initiative seeks to reduce insurgency through rehabilitation and social reintegration strategies, providing an alternative approach to combating terrorism.
