MTN Champs Season 3 Kicks Off in Benin City with 2,056 Athletes

Benin City, Edo State – Thursday, March 13, 2025, marked the beginning of MTN Champs Season 3, with 2,056 athletes set to compete in the three-day track events. The competition, held at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and UNIBEN Sports Complex, promises to showcase the best of Nigeria’s young athletic talents.

According to Mr. Bambo Akani, founder and CEO of Making of Champions (MOC), the competition has a proven track record of discovering raw talents, with some athletes already enjoying full scholarships in the United States ¹. Akani expressed confidence that the talented athletes discovered will make Nigeria proud both locally and internationally in athletics.

MTN’s Senior Manager, Sponsorship and Go To Market (GTM), Mr. Osaze Ebueku, highlighted the organization’s commitment to spotting and refining rough diamonds into world champions ¹. Ebueku emphasized MTN’s happiness to be in Benin City again, hunting for more talents to showcase to the world.

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, represented by the Chairman of the state Sports Commission, Mr. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, reiterated his administration’s belief in developing sports from the grassroots ¹. The governor approved the use of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium and other logistics to ensure a successful event.

The MTN Champs Season 3 will continue in Lagos from April 9-12 and conclude in Uyo from April 30-May 3 ². With its focus on grassroots development, the competition is poised to unearth the next generation of Nigerian athletic stars.
