TRAGEDY STRIKES BENUE COMMUNITY: 11 KILLED, SEVERAL INJURED IN ARMED HERDSMEN ATTACK

A devastating attack by suspected armed herdsmen has left at least 11 people dead and several others injured in Mbagena community, Mchihe Council Ward, Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State ¹.

According to eyewitnesses, the armed assailants invaded the community on Friday night, returning on Saturday around 7 p.m. with greater numbers, unleashing terror and destruction. Homes were set ablaze, food barns were looted, and farm produce was destroyed, leaving the community in distress.

As of Sunday morning, 11 bodies had been recovered, while several others remain missing. Many injured victims are receiving treatment in hospitals in Katsina-Ala Town.

Chairman of Katsina-Ala LGA, Mr. Justin Shaku, confirmed the incident, describing it as an unprovoked attack. He disclosed that seven others with serious injuries are receiving treatment in undisclosed hospitals.

Governor Hyacinth Alia has condemned the attack, expressing deep condolences to the affected families. He assured the public that those responsible would be brought to justice, stating that security forces have already been deployed to the troubled area.

The Governor urged Benue residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that security remains a top priority for his administration.

The attack has sparked widespread condemnation, with President General of Mzough U Tiv (MUT) Worldwide, Chief Iorbee Ihagh, urging authorities to deploy more security personnel to the affected area to prevent further bloodshed.
