Abuja, Nigeria – Thursday, March 7, 2025
Renowned gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has filed a defamation lawsuit against popular blogger Martins Vincent Otse, alias VeryDarkMan (VDM), at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The lawsuit alleges that VDM made defamatory statements on social media, accusing Chinwo of being involved in a contractual dispute and diverting $345,000 linked to her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu (Eezee Tee).
Chinwo’s legal team, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi, is seeking a court order compelling VDM to delete, retract, and issue a public apology for the allegedly false and defamatory statements.
The singer has provided documentary evidence, including emails and payment receipts, to substantiate that VDM’s allegations are entirely false.
This development comes on the heels of a Federal High Court in Lagos ruling that an arrest warrant against Eezee Tee over alleged fraudulent conversion remains in effect, with the case adjourned until March 6, 2025.
The defamation suit filed by Chinwo alleges that VDM’s posts were made without provocation and with the intention of damaging her reputation and public image.
