The Combined Most Expensive Back-four Defense In Premier League History

Leicester City tried to hold out for a World record fee on a Defender for Wesley Fofana’s deal this summer but the Foxes didn’t get their wish as they sold the Frenchman to Chelsea for a fee that’s a lot lesser than what they were expecting.

Manchester United Skipper Harry Maguire is the most expensive Defender in the Premier League history and Football history. The England International joined the Red Devils from Leicester City in 2019 for a world record fee of £80million.

Leicester City were expecting to get more than that from Chelsea on Wesley Fofana as they want a world record fee but they ended up getting less than £70million.

The figure put Wesley Fofana out of the combined most expensive Back-four in the Premier League History. While Harry Maguire is still in that spot despite his recent failures, Wesley Fofana isn’t but there’s another big name Defender there.

Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk is the second most expensive Defender in the Premier League. The Reds paid the then Club record fee of £75million to Southampton to sign Virgil Van Dijk.

Harry Maguire and Virgil Van Dijk do not have anything in common regarding their performance on the pitch but they do have one thing in common and it’s their respective hefty price tags.

Joao Cancelo is the most expensive Right-back in the Premier League History. The Portuguese Fullback cost Manchester City a League record fee of £60million for a Right-back.

Marc Cucurella is the most expensive Left-back in the World and in the Premier League. The Spanish Defender joined Chelsea for a fee of £57million from Brighton and Hove Albion this summer.
